Most common reasons for skin damage are acne and sun exposure. Damage caused due to sun exposure causes pigmentation, makes the skin dark and lose its glow. So to revert the damage one can try skin lightening face masks and use sunscreens regularly.
Skin Lightening Face Masks
1. Soak few strands of saffron in 1tbsp of milk overnight. To this add 1 tbsp of mashed banana, 1tbsp besan (chickpea flour), pinch of turmeric. Mix well and apply on face and neck for 30 minutes. Then wash off with lukewarm water. This mask can be used thrice a week and daily if the damage is severe. Saffron is the first option for skin lightening, banana rejuvenates the skin and adds a healthy glow, besan and turmeric help remove impurities.
2. Soak 3 almonds over night, remove the peel make smooth paste with water. To this add 1tsp of lemon, 1tbsp of oatmeal and 1tbsp of curd. Apply evenly on neck and face. Vitamin E present in almonds revitalizes the skin while lemon acts as lightening agent. Oatmeal helps skin maintain its pH balance and curd moisturizes the skin.
3. A mix of papaya mash and curd also helps in skin lightening.
4. Honey is another useful ingredient for skin lightening. Add it to banana mash or cinnamon powder (effective for pimples), or papaya mash for a glowing skin.

Pudina is my favorite to deal with acne. Mix equal quantities of pudina, tulsi, neem and make a paste. To this add curd and banana mash. Regular application of this mask would lower and stop pimples over time.
Baking soda also helps in dealing with pimples. Mix baking soda with little water and apply on affected area. Another useful remedy is honey mixed with cinnamon powder.
Mix orange peel powder with curd and pudina paste.
Do not just try and forget about masks, but use on a regular basis to see results.
All the above remedies show great results only when done on a consistent basis. Herbal and homemade remedies need time to to give desirable results. Personally, I tried banana + honey for 20 days continuously. This remedy helped me get rid of acne blemishes and spots. Another beneficial practice is eating or applying cucumber daily.
But people with acne prone skin need to follow these remedies on a regular basis to lessen the occurrence of acne. Also one needs to check the foods they are eating. More spicy food results in an outburst of pimples.
Also, practicing Yoga yields immediate and long-lasting results. Particularly, Suryanamaskaras and pranayama help a great deal.
